I'm back - My Lips But Better Lipsticks

Hello! I’m back. It’s been a long time since I’ve written in this blog - two years to be exact. My, how the time flies. It feels a bit strange to be getting back to the blog game. I guess life got in the way and at the time I didn’t feel that I was writing good stuff to warrant the time taken to write my articles.

I've known writers, who hit their stride, were interrupted for one reason or another, and then days turned into weeks turned into months and they were never able to get back in the saddle. However, I have been receiving messages from people asking me about cosmetics and I suddenly remembered my passion in sharing what I know about make up. Another factor is the fact that someone special has been blasting me with so much inspiration that made me feel like I actually have something to contribute to people who love cosmetics such as myself. I have also recently come back to read my old posts and actually liked what I read.

So, let me tell you what happened to me in the past two years. Well, I got into law school (yeah, would you believe that?), broke up with my boyfriend, but hey, my love for makeup never waned. I have been telling myself to stop buying makeup and every time I do, I end up buying more. Oh the irony. I guess when you really love something, you just can’t stop, can you? Anyway, I’m trying to get back into the swing of things, and I have some content planned for the blog.

So in the past two years, I have come up with a list of My Lips But Better Matte nude lipsticks that I highly recommend. I personally use these lippies, so here’s the list.

L'Oreal Paris Collection Star Pure Red in Pure Fire

The color is a stunning tangerine red color. The orange undertones are more prominent so this would suit girls who like to wear a red color that doesn't really shout "PULA NGUSO KO!".
This shade would probably suit people with neutral and dark skin tones.

Lipstick shades – How to choose?

With all the seasonal trends, it's hard to pick the lipstick color that's right for you.

Makeup artist Bobbi Brown suggests, “If I had to teach someone just one thing about lip color, it would be this: find a lipstick that looks good on your face when you are wearing absolutely no makeup. This is the magic color that will make your skin, hair and eyes look their best.”

Not sure what shades to start with? Narrow them down based on your natural lip color.

Pale lips:
Try beige, pale pink or bright red tones.

Medium-toned lips:
Try brown, rosy pink or warm red tones.

Dark lips:
Try dark brown, plum or deep red tones.

Alobon Perfect Lipstick Range - Swatch

This came from my boyfriend's brother, Kuya Thee Jay. It was his pasalubong for me when he came back from Singapore. He's awesome! Whenever he comes home from SG there's often a little something for me. I love him to bits and pieces! He knows that I have an addiction with lipsticks and so when he came home last week he bought a set for me. THANK YOU KUYA! It feels like Christmas already! Haha!

I seriously love the shades of the lipsticks!! I found a new favorite.. 306!!! Lovee itt!

This is actually my first time to ever come across this brand and I can definitely say I'm digging it! These lipsticks came from Alobon's Perfect Lipstick range.

The lipsticks are creamy to apply and they could stay on your lips for a very long time.

What can you say about the shades?

You can check Alobon's products in their site.

Cover Girl Simply Ageless Corrector

It actually looks better in person. It doesn't look cakey or unnatural at all, I guess the flash made it look too obvious than it really is.

I would definitely recommend this product, who wouldn't? I mean, aside form the fact that it can cover dark circles, it has properties of Olay that are really beneficial to one's skin.

VOV Castledew Dia Lips in 601

Revlon Photoready Airbrush Fond De Teint Mousse in 020 Shell

I have a love-hate relationship with this product, most of the time its just tad bad but at times it does work for me.

PACKAGING:

The packaging is ugly, it looks like a freakin' hairspray or something, except for the nozzle of course. The nozzle is so hard to control and it spurts the foundation out everywhere when you press it hard even when you don't mean to.

FOUNDATION:

The foundation feels very greasy when applied and has some weird smell. Trust me it's really a bad smell but you can get used to it after a while, but what if someone kisses you on the cheek? Smell + Grease = Turn off!

The foundation has a lot of GLITTER, literally a lot of it. You won't get a nice, dewy glow, its a friggin' immortal glow! haha! Like Edward Cullen.

But on the positive side, It does make your skin look good in photos, even in flash photography. I would recommend this for photoshoots and events that require your picture to be taken, but as an everyday foundation? NA-AH, there are better foundations out there.

Revlon ColorStay Soft & Smooth Lipcolor

Revlon ColorStay Soft & Smooth Lipcolor promises to keep your lips smooth and smudge free for hours on end. Its rich, creamy texture and smooth, sleek look practically shout modern and chic! With SoftFlex technology, you can face the world with confidence.

My Verdict:

This lipcolor feels like cupcake frosting. It applies smoothly and have excellent, even pigmentation. They do last a long time; the trick is after applying the lipcolor you'd have to wait for a minute or two to let it "dry" or “set” like the Loreal Infallible lipstick. By doing so it would definitely stay on longer. When you brush your finger against your lips, you don't get to transfer much as you would have if you didn’t let it “set” in.

Colorstay doesn't feel drying at all. Although it doesn't feel drying, it looks drying because it has this matte-like finish. But I think the dried-out look depends on the color because lighter shades more often look drying.

The finish of this lipstick is satin-ny/velvety. It does look a bit matte, but I noticed there are some pretty fine sparkles in it especially in Soft Nude.

It has a very subtle fragrance, it smells kind of like cake frosting actually, but you won’t really notice the smell unless you really tried smelling it. And there’s no yucky chemically taste I've had from other products, so points for that.

I don't like the packaging much though, I mean its nice to actually see the color unlike looking at the bottom twist part with color coded stickers, its OFTEN inaccurate right? The problem with the packaging is when it's been used a dozen times it just looks like a boring old nub of lipstick that isn't particularly elegant to look at.

Nyx Lip Smacking Fun Colors: Haute Melon & Orion

I have so many lip colors of the shades neutral, pink and red which is why I decided to buy these two. I want to have a large scope of colors.

Orion is a very nice shade of brown, I think its very similar with what Taylor Momsen wears, while Haute Melon is very much of a coral shade. I love these shades because of their unique color, and the fact that they change the ambience of the face from colorful and young to conservative and serious.

Sephora Rouge Cream Lipstick: Love Test R11

The Sephora Rouge Cream Lipstick line is actually the revamp of the iconic Sephora Lip Attitude Chic, this new version claims to have a hydrating formula that provides improved coverage.

The shade my brother bought for me is Love Test. It is a bright bluish pink color. It doesn't have any shimmer or glitter in it. I can definitely say that this color is "eksenadora" because my friends usually comment on the lippy whenever I'm wearing it because of the rife pigment, when I say "comment" they tease me because the color shouts "I'm wearing a lipstick you bitch" HAHA.

The texture is very creamy so the application is very easy. It stays on very long because of the satin matte finish, it may fade away along the day especially when you ate food or drank any beverage, but it will not totally disappear. It is not like other lipsticks that you'd have to reapply every now and then.
